You'll then go into other phases of the sleep cycle before going back into a deep sleep. Each time this happens, the deep sleep phase will get shorter until it eventually stops.

So why is deep sleep important?

Deep sleep provides many physiological and physical benefits. It can help you to is process information and improves your mood.

A lack of deep sleep will leave you feeling fatigued, and you'll be less likely to remember things. This is because your brain won't effectively convert information into memory.

People who don't get adequate deep sleep are more likely to develop Alzheimer's disease as they age. Those who suffer from sleep disorders and don't get enough deep sleep are more prone to severe medical conditions such as obesity, diabetes, and heart disease. A lack of deep sleep can even shorten your life expectancy!
